I have been asked to tell you something about a low protein diet for dogs.I will admit, that part of my training is rusty ,so I spent hours researching to make sure the information that I give is accurate and helpful.First of all feeding a dog a low protein diet, assuming they really need it(determined by a veterinarian) is completely different from feeding a regular diet.It is generally recommended for dogs with kidney disease.Their kidneys can not process the higher proteins in regular dog food. The easiest way to feed these dogs is,of course to feed a dog food diet made especially for dogs with their.
Some quality recommended brands are, wellness complete for kidneys,Health natural dry. Kidney diet, and Royal Canon kidney diet .The common ingredients in these foods are organic grains oats, barley, brown rice and a couple of unfamiliar ones.they also have organic sweet potatoes potoes, carrots green beans, peas beets etc..If you are dog owner who prefers to make your own food for your dog it can be done.It takes time and effort but you can do it.You need to start with plain yogurt, few eggs(whites, only)chicken preferably breast meat with all fat trimmed away.
again with all fat removed. Then you add sweet potatoes regular potatoes carrots peas green beans etc.Don’t forget to add your organic grains. Also a good vitamin(multi)for dogs is recommended.Just be sure it is one with no iron added. It is your choice, ready made or homemade.Either one is good if carefully prepared.the home made one should have vegetables and meats precooked.
For a snack, try a strip of raw carrot,or sweet potatory Remove Ry at end also add long healthy lives for your dog family.till next time,Betty Morgan
